7 warning signs in a job interview
An interview is not only the employer assessing you; you are assessing the employer too. Some signs tell you early what lies ahead.
1. Asking you for money
"Processing fee", "training fee", "security deposit" — whatever the name, being asked to pay before getting a job is the biggest warning sign. Legitimate hiring does not charge candidates. If you are a victim of this kind of fraud, report it to the police.
2. Dodging the salary question
"Join first, we will sort it out" — a salary that is never stated can later be set against you.
3. Reluctance to put anything in writing
Delays over an offer or appointment letter mean the employer is not ready to be held to its promises.
4. "Decide today"
Pressure without time to think is usually a tactic to stop you asking questions or checking.
5. The same job advertised again and again
If the same post is advertised every few months, people are not staying. Try to find out why.
6. Talking down former staff
If the interviewer is contemptuous about people who left, you will be spoken about the same way when you leave.
7. A vague job description
"You will have to do all kinds of work" — without clear responsibilities, the workload can become limitless.
One of these signs does not make a job bad. It is a reason to check. Look at the employer's reviews and interview experiences on ChakriKemon.
Check before you join
See what employees say about the employer you are applying to — or write about your own workplace to help someone else.
